in my magazine i tried to acheive a sense of profesionalism and maturity, but i realised that in trying to acheive this i just made my magazine dull and boring. It wasnt attractive in any way because there was not many colours or attractive texts that would help me in selling or getting someone to read my magazine.
Strengths and weaknesses
my magazine varied in good points and bad points, the strengths it had was that it has useful information on the front cover which is the text, although it wouldnt catch someones eye to want to read it because it looks very plain and boring, so that is both a weakness and strength in different ways. Another strength that my magazine has is that it does give the viewer a sense that it is for obviously the older more mature generation, which is why it is a secondary school and college magazine, i did try to acheive a sense of maturity which i think was succesful, alothough as i said it before it did make my magazine look dull and boring. A weakness that my magazine had is that the colours and layout are both very basic and simple, i reckon that i could of made the magazine look much more eye catching and proffesional, because at the moment it looks dry, but as i was saying the layout and colours do not do the magazine justice which is something that i think i could of changed for a better outcome. another weakness my magazine has is that it kind of looks like a contents page because of the way the pictures and text are structured, their are just as many pictures as there is text boxes, which is useful information, but making it look like a contents page is a sacrifice.
What was deliberate or coincidence?
I was deliberately trying to make my magazine look mature and proffesional, in doing this i did manage to make it look mature, but at the same time i made it look boring and dull which was just coincidence, and the proffesionalism worked in a way, but it could of been greatly improved. i was trying to specifically make my magazine look like it had alot of attractive pictures and text, but instead it just made the magazine look like a contents page, although it did have useful information for anyone that actually reads the front cover.
problems and weaknesses
The main problem my magazine had is that it is very dull and boring and looks kind of like a contents page, this is also a weakness in the attractiveness of the magazine, the same thing goes for the actual contents page because it lacks colours and pictures. Something else that is a problem is that the layout is not very well organised which i have just realised, this is a weakness to the professionalism of the magazine. The pictures are also not very well placed and arranged to fit the background.
What i intended to do, and why it did not work
When i was making my magazine my intentions were to make it look professional, mature, eye catching and appealing, i think the main reason why it did not work is because as i was trying to make it look mature and professional it actually made the magazine look dull, boring, unattravtive and unprofessional, this is because the intented maturity of the magazine included such colours as grey and white, which are not attractive and eye catching, this is a mistake which i now know not to make, which is why in my next magazine i will plan it better.
Compared work to OCR examples and how it compared?
i compared my work to some of the magazines in the (w)Drive and i saw that many of them had attractive and eye catching colours like red, yellow, green and blue, this is clearly colours that i did not use, which was a mistake i made and will not make again. i also noticed that compared to the other magazines my magazine did not have pictures that catches peoples eyes, in many of the other magazines they had large pictures which showed importance or a big story, then it had other pictures that were of relevence, they also had big colourful text to show what the magazine contains inside, or what its all about, these are all important things which i should take into account when i do my other magazine.
